January 23, 2007: First time visit to Banjarmasin
Yesterday I went with Ronadi to Banjarmasin to offer a neurosurgery equipment to the hospital. This hospital just purchased a new microscope from our company.
We used Lion Air, first flight in the morning, 06.15 am. I had to wake up at 3 am, and Dedy picked me up at 4 am. Then we fetched Ronadi. My my.....I was still very very sleepy. Haven't had any breakfast yet, and Lion Air only served 1 glass of mineral water.
The airport, Bandara Syamsudin Noor, is a small building, and the airfield arrangement was quite strange because it has another field or plane parking area far from the terminal. So we had to ride bus from the plane to terminal.
From the air, I could see a lot of trees and greeneries below there.
Another scene that was different from the capital city:
There was a group of people of coming home from hajj, the people who picked their family was so crowded. Maybe 1 hajj was picked up by his/her whole family member, hahaha............
Had a breakfast first before we went to hospital. Food is always expensive at airport.
From airport to Ulin Hospital, we took taxi, it took 45 minutes. What a long trip.
Arrived at the hospital, met some key persons there, introduced myself and had a chit chat with them.
Hungry again, I asked Ronadi what is the specialty here and where was place to eat. He said hospital canteen is on 2nd floor of the building, and another canteen next to the building, near mosque.
Wow, there were lots of grilled fish! Looks tasty with reddish color from the spices (bumbu). I chose "ikan patin bakar" with "urap". Ikan patin doesn't have many small bones, that's why I like it, no extra effort to eat it. The sambal was nice, sweet hot sour chilly paste with tomato.
Yum yum....... A nice lunch!!
I don't know what happened with my stomach since yesterday, today was disturbing too.
Hung out at Jelita Hotel, near the hospital. We still had 1.5 more hours before we can go to airport. With the tired toes, I preferred sitting in its coffee shop.
Plane got delayed for 30 minutes. Boring, boring..........No executive lounge inside the waiting room. But there's one outside.
I still had more work to do after arrive in Jakarta.

December 27, 2006: Another trip to Singapore continued to Purwokerto
I checked and monitored the status of the shipment online. It turned out that it arrived at Singapore on Dec 24, 2006. Good! That means, I can pick them all around 27 Dec.
Christmas was on Monday, so must wait to book airplane ticket on Dec 26. This time I wanted everything was perfect!
Called Birkart Jakarta and Singapore, and called IndoExpress to provide the permit without GST. Nothing was left.
Because after arrived from Singapore, I and Hansen must straight away go to Purwokerto to submit the goods.
Oh yes, I reported the behaviour of Birkart's Singapore staff to their Jakarta office. I didn't ask her name, so it was difficult for them to report it to their head office. But Jakarta manager, Bu Yayu was really really upset hearing I was having a bad service.
======================
The important day. Went on Adam Air on Dec 27. They provided us a glass of mineral water and one Roti Boi. Gosh, kinda boring huh?
This time, I was able to use the free public phone! Yippie..... I stayed inside airport until I ensure everything was arranged nicely. Had some snacks, and watched CNN, then made more phone calls.
Oh God, what happened with the internet here? Changi has many internet workstation, free. I cannot login to my mail boxes, except Friendster. I need to check my e-mails!!!!!!!!
Oh well, bought a Burger King again. Went to Birkart's office. Smiled to Rose, but not that Bi**h.... At first I wanted to ask her how the movie was, going sarcastic here, haha..............But I decided not to greet her or talk to her, while everyone else was being nice to me.
I checked the goods: the ones from UK, the first shipment from US, and the second. Good, everything is here. I asked Rose to provide transportation for me and the goods to Changi airport.
Ooops, one small problem. Rose told me that one of the permit stated 2 boxes instead of only 1 box we had! Called IndoExpress and their permit agent. No good!
Then Rose tricked it. We opened the box, took out a part of the content and keep it in another box. Voila! we had two boxes now!
Got through the first custom at the freight area, I must get second chop from custom officers at Changi, otherwise they will consider me smuggling goods from Singapore. We don't want that happen, do we?
It took 3 trolleys to carry all of the goods, and I was alone. Thanks to one of the truckers, he accompanied me and helped me to push the trolleys to Custom and to check in counter.
With all the troubles moving the trolleys and check the goods in, I can relax a bit.
Had my dinner on 2nd floor. Ummm....not too nice.
Checked my e-mails again. Still couldn't access. Arrghhhhh...........what happened to the internet today?????
Had some rest on the plane. Hansen and Pak Jakri awaited me. We put all in the car and began our trip to Purwokerto.
You can imagine how tired I was. We got to hotel around 3 AM. Went to hospital at 8 AM, reported to the tender committe, and installed the machine.
Too bad dr. T was still in Hajj, otherwise we can start the training and test functions.
But.....................I felt relieved! My God.....it's been a hard time for me. Took a lot of energy and time to accomplish this project.
======================
And..... When I checked the items, I realized that Integra forgot to include the suction tubes, 6 boxes! My, my............
Must inform them to deliver it ASAP.
I will go back again to give a training to Dr. T and his team.
Later on I found out that there has been a problem with undersea fiber optic cable in Taiwan due to an earthquake. It caused interference on Internet in SEA area.

December 23, 2006: One day trip to Singapore (Airport)
Integra has done some mistakes!
My concern now is that Christmas is coming, people and office will have their holiday.
Even IndoExpress, our freight forwarder is off on Friday, Jan 22. Another change of plan then.
I asked them to prepare things before their day off so when I'm in Singapore nothing's gonna go wrong.
======
So,
It's time to go to Singapore, pick up the goods, and deliver them to the hospital. I couldn't sleep the whole week thinking what will happen during my trip.
Once I arrived at Changi, first thing to do was to call Birkart (our other forwarder), and check if everything is OK. I saw free public phones but (this is silly) I didn't know how to use it although I have read the instruction.
I went to exit door, found a seat, thinking what to do. Called Rose at Birkart, with my cell phone (I can imagine how much the figure on my next month bill).
I asked her the progress of the shipment. I and Selvi knew that we took a risk to come here, but I have pushed them for shipping it on time.
Rose told me that if I take the goods out of their office I must pay 5% GST. I was surprised, because my boss told me that he picked up Thermage machine from IndoExpress without paying the tax because it didn't go out of airport area.
Rose said her office is not in Change airport area.
Decided to have my lunch first, bought Burger King, I forgot the name but it was good. It has mushrooms in it. Then I took a taxi to go to Birkart's office.
It was far from airport, I thought it was in the same area. I see the situation now.
Arrived in Birkart office, looked for Rose. She was a nice lady, she's malay.
The goods worthed around EUR 20,000. I didn't have any money to pay 5% tax (although I can reclaim it at the airport). It wasn't required so office didn't give me much money.
Then I asked Rose to check status of the shipment, goods were still in Taiwan, . Yesterday night it was in Taiwan too, no progress????!!!!
Those were the most important goods I need.
While there were some disposable goods (small package) already arrived at IndoExpress office and have been delivered to Birkat office, Rose could not release it as she didn't know how to prepare the permit without me paying the GST. My goodness! I called IndoExpress in Indonesia, Rose called their Singapore office. No one there, it was 2.30 PM. All Birkart people has gone home, it was holiday season, it was Saturday. Only Rose and her colleague (she asked to) stayed.
I waited for any progress, seems nothing happened. Suddenly Rose's colleague scolded me, asked me what my company wanted them to do, etc, and what didn't make any sense that she had bought movie tickets and would be late because of me.
I was under HUGE pressure thinking about us failed to deliver, got scolded with some stupid reason given!
What the he** lady! You don't talk like that to your customer! I'm your customer, and you gave me a selfish reason: you were late to watch your movie. What a
I work in a service business, I sacrifice my personal things for my clients!
I stared at her. Didn't know what to say in English! I was sooo upset. Fortunately Rose was still helpful, I felt bad because held her at work at this time. But we didn't have any choice.
I called Selvi, said that we have done our best but we didn't get any results today.
I really want to scream loudly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How come this can be happening? It's like my nightmare come true.
======
Went to Changi airport with a long face.
While waiting for my flight, I tried to enjoy Changi facilities and services.
Had some snack, yeah,....never forget my dear tummy :)
Took some pictures. They had a live music in the lobby of departure hall, playing Christmas carols.
My dinner was on 2nd floor, had Hainamese chicken and rice.
Flew home
======
I went back to Jakarta empty handed. Must report to boss, to our partner, and to the hospital. We can't afford to pay huge amount of penalty, USD 35,000! It doesn't make any sense.
The key is to negotiate things.

Capsule Endoscopy Training, Kuala Lumpur
Training: Nov 29-30, 2006
==========================================================================
My colleagues from Singapore, Yap KC, went to Capsule Endoscopy (CE) distributor meeting in Hamburg last September, after that we had an internal training for the updates of CE, done in head office, Kuala Lumpur.
November 28, 2006
Arrived in KLIA at noon, I and Susan went straight away to Concord Hotel, checked in, put our luggages in the room, then looked for lunch, Nasi Kandar stall located behind the hotel. Usually I'd go to office after checked in, but this time we didn't have enough time. It was already 4 PM.
Called Jeonine to fix dinner appointment tonight at KLCC food court.
We'll meet up at 7 PM. Great, we'd have time to take a nap :)
Yeny and Cynthia asked us to check out Vincci sandals at KLCC. While waiting for Jeonine, we checked out Vincci's store. Crowded!
After met Jeonine, we went to 4th floor and started searching for our dinner menu.
Alicia joined us. I ordered Phat Thai Noodle, yummy! It's halal. Big porsion.
I have been missing this since 2003. I tried this food for the first time at a training in Bangkok in 2003. But everytime I went to Bangkok, I didn't order it because I was afraid it was not halal.
I also ordered Es Campur.
KC later on joined us after arrived from Singapore by bus.
Back to hotel with a full stomach.
November 29, 2006
I couldn't wait to have breakfast at Melting Pot Restaurant in Concorde Hotel.
They have changed the lay out and got new furnitures. Love the food!
KC gave us interesting materials on CE updates.
Lunch provided: a big cheese burger and big glass of coke.
Alicia took us for dinner at KLCC, this time to Little Penang and it was on office! Yippie, can save the allowance.
I ordered Penang Laksa. I was still full thus thinking to order a light dish. To my surprise, came a very BIG bowl of Penang Laksa. From the picture, you'll think it was not that big.
Trust me, it's a big bowl!
Then I went to Kinokinuya Book Store to buy Henry Wisnu's order: Michigan TOEFL Book. Not to forget Vinnci again!
Still quiet difficult to find a right model, a right color, and the right size for me!
November 30, 2006
Breakfast again at Melting Pot. So many food to choose. From Chinese breakfast, Malay menu, and American Buffet.
Today lunch is on office again. Sany brought us to Madam Guan. Wow, the seats were full. But we managed to get a place for our group.
I ordered Rice and Chicken and Sagoo Malay for dessert. The rice was similar to Hainam Chicken Rice.
We were at the restaurant for several hours. CE discussion was moved, from office meeting room, to the lunch table.
We got back to the hotel early and went to Bukit Bintang. Susan wanted to find some dried food and stuffs. We''l meet Alicia later on who promised to bring us to Kedai Mamak. It's like a food court, but serving more Indian food. We tried Roti Canai with Egg, Roti Tissue, Cheese Nan, etc. The unique thing was every dish was served with curry, same curry.
Cold tarik tea was nice.
Oh, my father is on Aceh trip. We sent text messages to see how things were.
An urgent matter came up. Aesthetic Team needed us to pick up some goods ordered by their dermatologist.
Boss was upset, Paulus and Diana SMS us, asking for our help.
December 01, 2006
Our first plan was no need to go to office this morning. But due to the order, we had to pick it up. Then went to KLIA.
Wow, they have Wi-Fi connection at the lounge. Note: not boarding lounge, but the area where you can just sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
They've got World's Best Airport Award!
I bought a box of chocolate filled with durian. Interesting.
Sadly, one week after the trip, my father passed away
I'm in Bali (8th Asian Congress of Urology)
Never been to Nusa Dua, last time our exhibition was in Kuta area. It's quite far from the airport.
We brought so many things and they were heavy.
The hotel was nice, it's at hill, but our room was at the back, needed to walk far from the lobby with our heavy luggages.
After took some rest, we went to Westin Hotel, the venue.
The first two days of the exhbition was good because many urologists were there, visited the exhibition. Susan got some prospects from key doctors.
After that, it was soooo quiet! Boring! Not to mention I have to deal with the principal, this guy is unbelievable. He's so sarcastic, just because we haven't sold a single system.....Can't blame him, he's the Director of Asia Pacific....Or maybe because he's an American? Dunno exactly...
He wasn't helping us to improve our selling strategy! Aarrrrggghhh............. Need to report this to boss.
We attended welcome dinner, sponsored by Olympus. Nice food!
There will be farewell dinner too.....
On first day, we didn't get our lunch on time. The organizer told us we won't have it. But they distributed it after all, at 3 PM! It wasn't lunch time anymore.
But the lunch box was nice, it was not paper box, but made from dry grass. Usually we use that kind of box for gifts/presents to put inside, but they use it for lunch box, hahaha.....
Alicia, new staff from KL, joined us on 2nd day. Bad thing happened as we found out that the extra bed was in living room, and it was a couch bed! The bed was thin, I can feel the wire underneath.
Another thing that Susan hasn't changed yet, the first two days of exhibition we were always late. I don't like being late, and we were having exhibition with our principal, she should know that better!!!!
Bandung Trip (July 10, 2006)
Today, I went with Susan, Hansen, and Henry M. Susan and Hansen would install our PillCam System at a new big hospital. While I and Henry visited Hasan Sadikin Hospital.
After finished our work. We had our lunch, LATE lunch! It was 03.45 pm. Henry, who is familiar with Bandung, cos he's been living there since high school time, showed us a place to get a lunch.
Well, he brought us to Lapangan Gazibu for breakfast, we had Lontong Kari there.
Hansen ate Lontong Kari and Bubur Ayam!
Then for lunch, we have grilled chicken (Ayam Bakar). Tasty. I had Ayam Bakar, Tempe goreng, Ati Ampela, Lalapan, Sambal, n warm rice, with sweet ice tea.
Hansen, took two pieces of Ayam Bakar, and additional rice from Susan.
After resting for awhile, we went to Pa' Oyen for Es Campur. Nice ice, you will find avocado, jackfruit, young coconut, pacar cina, ground ice, and sweetened milk in that.
Henry challenged Hansen if he can finish up two portion of Bakso Siomay, if he can, Henry will pay for the food. At first, Hansen just smiled and drank his ice, but in the middle he said OK.
Well...............He finished 'em up!!!!! Bravo, only 2 hours after our late lunch.
Actually, I still wanted to try Surabi, Sop Buah, and buy Bagelen. But we needed to go home.
I was full. I bought Brownies Amanda. When I got home, I took some slices. Whoaaa, I didn't think I can sleep well tonight with this full stomach.
To Dian in Detroit, if you read this, I'm sorry my dear you can't taste Indonesian food.

Weekend in Pratunam
After checked out from Evergreen we checked in to First House Hotel, which we booked through the net.
There were First Hotel, and First House Hotel. I have never been to the location during my last visits to Bangkok. It’s called Pratunam. A little bit awkward. Taxi driver said he knew the place. But he took us to First Hotel. Then I asked him to ask the door guard of the hotel if he knew the location. Oh my God! He said that the hotel is smaller and not far from there.
Susan and I looked each other, smaller????
Well, the thought was right. We had to go in to an alley to get to this hotel. It was in market area. I wasn’t comfortable with the atmosphere. But what can we do? We were stuck there for 2 days, so let’s just enjoy it. The room wasn’t too bad, breakfast I can handle, by only ate toast bread and salad.
There were shopping malls, e.g. Platinum Plaza where it has thousands of store that sell fashion clothings, bags, and shoes. Too bad I have big size feet, otherwise, I would buy those pretty shoes!
Integra Training, Day 9
Only one thing I'll remember:
Vadim - Vadim - Vadim - Vadim - Vadim
Ummm, no wait............It's five! Hahaha
Class finished early.
Hansen reported about our client's problem that has occured.
Dinner with Jolean, Jin, and Young at the same Indian restaurant I went last night.
Jolean wanted to buy Bangkok bags.........Jin showed us the store at Patpong, then we went back to hotel.
Used our welcome drink coupon with Susan, Jolean, Victoria, KM Chung, and Xi Bin.
Must pack tonight because tomorrow we have to check out and move to First House Hotel.
Integra Training, Day 8
Had no class today, they will discussing new products: RADIONICS. We enjoyed sleeping and woke up late. At least we still had a chance to take our breakfast. Something happened in Jakarta, one of the hospital was having a trouble with their CE video. Asked Hansen to investigate, therefore I must talk with him online.
Then, worked out at the gym for one hour, took a shower, and with Susan we went to MBK. Well, the plan was to go to MBK for lunch then browse Siam area. But we went out quite late from hotel, we could not get to Siam because I had an appointment with Anil at 5 PM, so we went back to hotel.
I bought so many things, I didn't know how to pack them in my luggage, not to mention the overweight luggage!
Anil was waiting for us, so we took taxi to Gems Gallery. Dian asked me if I can check out gem stones in Thailand, especially ruby. Anil went there sometime ago and bought some gems. We were late, there was traffic jam, and the gallery will be closed at 6 PM when Anil confirmed.
When we got there, the sales supervisor Anil met greeted us and showed us the gems.
Eeeksss..........Ruby is expensive. Small piece can be range from B 40,000 to B 120,000.
Hmmm.......Dian must be informed about the price.
I was just looking around. I didn't want to buy anything more. I have spent my money. I even withdrew some from my ATM because of the nice stuffs.
I asked Ms. Wan, the sales supervisor, about my birth stone, it is diamond. Godness! I can't afford to buy that stone!
I didn't know what came over me, I bought a bracelet with garnets. It's so pretty. But actually it's better if I bought gold instead of gems.
The gallery sent us back to hotel without no charges at all. Anil and I decided to have a dinner and asked the driver to drop us at Himali Cha Cha, Indian restaurant near our hotel.
What a coincidence, we met Karen, Rich, Vadim, Murray, Caroline, Christina, and Phillipa there. They were finishing the dinner, and we joined them. Phillipa asked me if I wanted to go with them to Suan Lum. I wished I can......I have no money left in my wallet and I really need the rest. I still haven't done my proposal yet.
It was a nice food. Then we went back to the hotel, I have a class tomorrow.
Integra Training, Day 7 (March 14, 2006)
Saw a cute guy at the restaurant while we lunch and he sat with the group. I was wondering who he was. It turned out that he is Vadim Gurevich, product manager for ultrasonics aspirators. Gees............he's so young, Tony said he is probably less than 30 years old. What a record for Integra to have that young manager, beside Tom Hur of course....
We haven't used our free massage coupon. So at noon, we called the place to book a place. I heard from Ms. Chan that they had a bad experience with the staff there.
After the class, Susan, I, Jolean, and KM (her boss) went there. The three girls had a same room. We enjoyed our Thai massage.
Health Land Spa & Massage, reception desk
|
Then we went to a seafood restaurant near hotel where I went with Tony several days ago.
Dinner was on KM. He said because we have treated and taken care Jolean so well so he bought us dinner.
Look at our prawns!

Integra Training, Day 6
Woke up late, we were very tired because of yesterday's activities.
We decided to skip our group dinner tonight to a seafood restaurant. Wei tried to talk me to go with them, telling me that the seafood restaurant was very good! He said that I had to forget my diets for now and eat with them. Wah, I know the place. It was same place we went in 2003.
Better to exercise and sleep early. Susan took a swim and I joined the yoga class. Damn, I'm so fat that I had some problems to do the movements I used to do easily.
After taking yoga class, we went to Patpong to buy some stuffs.
Integra Training, Day 5
Jason bought some mango.
A girl took our picture when we got on the boat. We found a lady displayed our pictures on a plate near our bus. I straight away bought it as a souvenir.
Cool Bus |
From there, the trip continued to Royal Thai Handicraft where they made beautiful wooden crafts, a paper made from tree branches. Only windows shopped, nothing interested me, although there were silk scarfs, 500 Baht each.
Hungry, hungry.........We arrived at Samphrand, elephant and crocodile show. Had our lunch first at the restaurant then we watched the show. It was an awesome incredible show. The elephants were doing performance and playing soccer. Then, when it was over, we could take some pictures of them or ride them.
The guys went to see crocodile show, but on our way to the place, me and Susan stopped at a clothing store. We bought T-shirts and missed the show.
Goodness, weather was very very hot and I wore my long sleeve shirt (well, I had to ....lol).
I felt very tired. We got to hotel not very late. I thought I would have early rest so I would have the energy for Monday. But, the other part of me said to go with the girls for only awhile. Jolean wanted to go to the night market near the hotel (Patpong).
And what did I do? I shopped and shopped. We were there until mid night!
Bad thing was, some birds pooed at us while they were flying. Whaaaa..............
Integra Training, Day 4 (March 11, 2006)
And me? Just stay in the city. The girls were still sleeping when I had the breakfast. Planned to work out, but then I've got my period. Oh no.........I didn't expect this, because usually I will have it after date of 20th. I took a nap for awhile because I felt tired.
After 12 o'clock, we got ready and went to Saphan Taksin station to get on a boat in Chao Phraya River and will stop at Grand Palace Complex. It cost 100 Baht for one day pass, you can get off of the boat at any place you like then wait for it to stop at the pier and you can continue to visit other places that located near the river.
The weather was very very hot! Jolean and Susan were so enthusiastic taking pictures. HEBOH!
Just look at my photo album for the scenery and places we visited.
The photographer-Susan and the model-Jolean |
The adventurer..... Weather was HOT! |
Integra Training, Day 3 (March 10, 2006)
I and Susan were soooo sleepy, we decided to take a quick lunch and went to our room straight away. We slept and got to the class late, hahaha.......
Jolean (my friend from Hong Kong) arrived at the hotel around 4 PM. Gave her our key room so she can put all of her stuffs.
I had a meeting with Tony, discussing new products strategy and my progress. I told the girls not to wait me, they could go out by themselves, but don't forget to buy me some dinner.
Finished the meeting at 8.15 PM, then we looked for some food near hotel. We found this seafood restaurant. So I ordered Tom Yam Goong and steam rice, I don't want anything else. Then Tony ordered some vegetables, grilled squid, and raw oysters.
What a meal we had! Hot n spicy..............Delicious.
Something interesting happened. There were two men in front of restaurant, brought a baby elephant. They offer us sugar cane to feed it, and if we want to take pictures of it, they charged.
After finished the dinner, we went back to hotel.
The girls were in the room and bought me indian food. Well, I had to eat it up, otherwise it would be wasted.
